5 Weekend To-Dos to Feel Like You Lived, Not Just Rested

If you want to go deeper, use the Hanashi Mori™ reflection prompts to journal.

Here is my top 5 list of weekend to-dos

1. Do One Thing That’s Just for You

Not for the kids. Not for your partner. Not to be productive. Just because it lights you up. Perhaps a walk on your own, a pencil sketch of something that you like drawing on a new page, or perhaps a dance in the kitchen from pot to fridge. The kind of thing that makes you feel like you again.

Hanashi Mori™ reflection prompt: “When was the last time I did something for joy, not purpose?”

2. Create a “Mini Ritual”

Light a candle on Friday night to signal the theme for the weekend. Journal with your morning coffee. Add lemon to your water and sip it mindfully. These small rituals will give you a lot of grounding energy.

Hanashi Mori™ reflection prompt: “What’s a tiny ritual could bring more intention into every weekend? What worked well for me?”

3. Put One Memory in the Bank

It’s not about aiming for perfect weekends, where everything goes to plan. Aim for a moment, a story to keep. What small action, feeling or event happened that wants to be remembered? It could be a spontaneous picnic, laughing in the rain, or watching the sunrise.

Hanashi Mori™ reflection prompt: “If this weekend were a story, what would the highlight be?”

4. Let Something Go

Oh yes, I am going there. Decluttering. I am sure I am not the only one that needs to reduce some of the physical baggage that is holding me down. But decluttering is more than just emptying a drawer, it could also be to cancel one unnecessary plan, OR to say no without guilt. Make space, in your schedule, in your home, in your heart.

5. Reflect Before the Week Begins

Even just five minutes on Sunday evening will give you a ‘get up and go’ feeling come Monday morning. Ask yourself: What felt good? What do I want more of? What will I carry with me into next week?

Hanashi Mori™ reflection prompt: “What did this weekend teach me about what I need right now?”

I hope these ideas or even just 1 of them, will give you an intentional, focused weekend. In amongst all the plans you have made. And you don’t need a full itinerary to make the weekend count. Just presence, intention, and a little bit of story.
